locked out?

Ok, how dumb can this American be? Did you know that if you leave the inside key in the dead lock and close the door, you can’t get back in the house? I know now. That’s just what I did. Worse yet, neither Tom nor I had our phones, so we couldn’t call anyone for help. And to make it even worse, I didn't have my i-touch (to listen to) or my knitting (to keep me calm).What to do… What to do…. It’s just after 9am. Panic sets in. Tom’s not a happy camper. I walked next door to our landlord’s sister’s house. They don’t speak much English, and I speak no German. Somehow I managed to get the husband to understand that I was locked out and ask him to call Nicholas (landlord).
Within a few minutes Nicholas drives up with his little boy. Nicholas is in his mid 30’s and reminds me a lot of Tommy. After I explain that not only have I locked us out, but the deadbolt key is in the door. Nicholas works on the door for a few minutes, then makes a phone call. He goes next door to his sisters and returns with a rubber mallet, a towel and a blade. It takes about 15 minutes and a lot of “loud” banging, but he gets the door open. During this time Nicholas’ son is watching and talking to his dad. I’m sure he’s asking about the dumb American. In any case, Nicholas got the door open and he was very nice about it too. So, I’ve learned a lesson, even if Tom says he doesn’t need anything from the house, I intend to check the door and make sure the dead bolt key isn’t in the lock. Update on Meghan

Good thing the Prom was last Saturday, cause Meghan wouldn't want any photos this weekend. She was watching a ball game on Saturday and a "foul" ball got her in the head. Her mom had to take her to the ER. The did exrays and confirmed Meghan has a brain. Nice to know. She had a headache but otherwise is OK.

So I guess I won't get any phots until the lump goes down.
