I’ve been thinking (I know, you are surprised). If I had to give up knitting, what would I do with my time? The reason this has been on my mind is that I’ve had some problems with arthritis for the past few weeks. Nothing horrible, just uncomfortable. My right shoulder, right elbow, right wrist, right hip, right knee and right foot. Anyone see a pattern here? Sometimes, it hurts to knit. That’s what got me thinking.

I used to crochet more than knit, but arthritis in my fingers makes holding a crochet hook difficult. I still crochet a little, mostly trim on my knitted projects. So until recently holding knitting needles didn’t bother me. Giving up crocheting afghans and baby blankets wasn’t so hard as I had my knitting. But IF I had to stop knitting what would I do? Knitting is my creative outlet. The planning of the design, the choosing of yarn types and colors, the actual knitting of the item, these things give me pleasure.

Teaching knitting is fun and I enjoy it. Can you teach knitting if you can’t knit? I hope I don’t have to find out.

Now for real knitting content.

Yesterday was Wednesday Knitting Group. Deb T and Jane were ready to finish their Double Rib Hat. They learned to decrease the crown of the hat. They have surprised me with their ability to learn so quickly. They want to learn cable knitting next. Guess it’s time for me to design something with cables for them. I don’t want to overwhelm them, so it will probably be a purse or handbag. Ann continued to practice her stitches. She’s determined to learn to purl although she still thinks that knitting is easier.

Now for a little grandkid time

Class project

I've spent the day working on the Wednesday Knitting group double rib hat. I took photos on each step (I hope). This way I can show the knitting group what their project should look like. The hat is a basic double rib on two needles.
