We are no longer “homeless” in Germany. Our household goods (HHG) were delivered on 2 April. As always when we transfer, it’s stressful and you wonder what will be missing or broken when the HHGs arrive. For the past 3 days we’ve been unpacking and moving furniture.
The delivery went well, only one “glitch”. We have 2 queen size beds. No problem right? We have 5 bedrooms. But we have a spiral staircase. Both mattresses went up but only one box springs could get up the stairs. One is a high profile box springs, the other is a low profile box springs. That explains the problem, but not a fix. We ended up with the thicker springs in a sealed box in the garage. We purchased a “split” queen box sprints. Never heard of that before, but it made putting the bed on the top floor of the house easier.
Speaking of floors, we have 3 floors and a finished attic. The spiral stairs go all the way up to the attic and Tom’s already been putting stuff up there. If we put it in the attic, shouldn’t we have gotten rid of it before we left the states? Also the floors are heated! No more cold feet in the winter.
And speaking of winter, it looks like winter has moved out of Germany and made room for spring. I’ve been driving home in the miata with the top down. Really nice weather, not hot (like Texas).
I have been surprised at how many miata’s I’ve seen here. Of course they call it MX5. With the roads going through the villages, the small miata is a perfect car.
So far my new job is going well. I really like the Team Chief and my co-workers. I know it’s going to be a challenge for any job to be as great as the one I left in Texas, not to mention the fantastic co-workers I left behind.
Our internet DSL is slow and the “wireless” is not like we are used to. You can be wireless, but the router they “gave/sold” us has a very short range. So unless I’m sitting right next to the router, I can’t upload photos as it times out. Oh well the joys of living overseas!
This is the Easter holiday for the Germans. They have Friday and Monday off. Some will be back on Tuesday, but many are combining this holiday with their vacation time. Not sure who will be back to work next week. Friday there were only a handful Americans in the office. For some reason, all the “customers” wandered down to my office. Being the new kid on the block, I did the best I could to answer questions. Most questions were how to apply for a job and problems with the application process.
Guess I did OK, cause everyone seemed to leave satisfied. By the end of the day, I was really ready for the weekend!
